Still have questions?

Yes! If you want to add additional sessions, they will be $250 per one-hour session. And to maximize our time, I’ll go over your pre-submitted work beforehand so that we can jump into solutions and ideas rather than taking time to first review your work and then giving my thoughts during the session.

After I finish the mentorship program, can I add more sessions?

The reason the mentorship program is 10 weeks is that it gives the mentee enough time to make meaningful progress towards their goals. The biggest part of this leveling up process is reiterating and re-thinking with each revision pass on their storyboards so that the storytelling becomes clearer, more focused, and more entertaining. But if, for example, you’re an industry pro who wants to focus on a clear and specific goal, then we can talk about how many sessions may be needed to achieve this.

Can I do a shorter mentorship program?

Storyboarding is intensive and requires a lot of thinking and problem-solving to make a sequence stronger than what’s written on the page, so it’s advisable to stick with one project during the duration of the 10-week program. But if you have a couple of short stories that are in good shape, we can always talk about how much time this will take for you to hit your goals.

Can I work on more than one project in the mentorship program?

The main expectation I have is that the mentee dive deeply and thoughtfully into implementing the critiques, notes, and advice into their storyboard sequence and to have made clear and significant progress between each session. Why is this important? Your value as a professional storyboard artist is directly tied to how strong of a storyteller you are and also how well you implement the director’s notes in your revision passes. Your goal is to be an asset to every production you’re on, so dive deeply and thoughtfully into understanding why the critiques are given and how you can implement them into your project. If you make this a part of your foundation, you will learn and grow by leaps and bounds.

What kinds of expectations do you have for your mentees?

Yes! The main goal in the mentorship program is to help you achieve your goals to become a stronger and more effective visual storyteller. So if you need a few weeks more between sessions to dive deep into making your project stronger, then we can schedule our sessions based on your progress. I can only help and guide you when there’s enough of your work for me to review. If your weekly progress is minimal, or is just a repeat of what I saw in the previous session, then this is not going to help your overall progress.

Is there flexibility in the scheduling of sessions?

If you have no prior experience either in drawing, illustration, or storyboarding, I recommend you take the time to learn the fundamentals of drawing and get in your daily drawing reps each and every day! Storyboarding is drawing-intensive, so the stronger you are at drawing and perspective, the better those skills will help you in drawing complex staging and character performances. Also, take courses beforehand, either with me or with a qualified art and/or storyboard instructor who will teach you the foundations of visual storytelling. Remember, drawing is the tool to help tell the story.

I’m a beginner with no storyboarding experience. Is the mentorship program right for me?

Nope! If you’ve taken either my course or someone else’s, or have professional experience, then the mentorship program is an excellent way to continue learning and honing your storytelling skills.

Do I have to take the Feature Animation Storyboarding: The Deep Dive into Visual Storytelling course before I do the mentorship program?

Absolutely! This mentorship is designed to help you become a stronger and more focused storyteller, but storyboards are only as strong and clear as the writing. And truthfully, we actually want our boards to help elevate the script pages. So I’ll first take a look at the overall structure of your story and give you my thoughts and advice (if needed) before giving the green light to jump into storyboarding.

Can I storyboard a story I’ve written in the mentorship program?
